Team & Leadership Opportunities
We endeavour to give all of our children opportunities to grow and develop their skills with leadership opportunities and as a valuable member of the team. We all have areas in which we excel and those where we are more challenged; we develop each of these areas in each of our children. HEPS offers an array of opportunities to ensure we discover the talents of all of our children.
- Sport Team Leaders and team members
- Sport Team Leaders manage their sport teams. They model excellent sporting values to their team and other teams. Sport Team Leaders often read a sport report in assembly which encourages other children to participate in sport events. Sport Team Leaders encourage and support their teams before, during and after an event.
- House Captains and colour teams
- House Captains are voted for, in a democratic manner, by the entire school population following speeches in a school assembly. House captains are responsible for encouraging participation for all house events such as sports day, interhouse events such as: the photography, art, mini cake decorating competition and sporting events such as the interhouse swimming gala, orienteering and the school cross country race.
- Digital Champions and class members
- Digital Champions ensure that they take the lead for their class with online, hardware and software safety. They champion appropriate online content and support peers who find this area challenging. Digital Champions discuss new content related items in the news such as AI.
- Kingsmoor leadership roles and the Kingsmoor team
- All members of Kingsmoor class are expected to demonstrate excellent leadership skills and model these to Reception through to Year 6. These roles are unique to each cohort and consider the talents and skills of the children in this year group. Currently we have: finance monitors, horticultural experts, community liaison officers, librarians and environmental monitors.
- School Councillors and class members
- School Councillors are voted for in a democratic manner by their peers. Children may not be a School Councillor more than once in the school year which gives the opportunity for six members of a class to represent their class. The School Council meets at least 4 times per half term and usually weekly. They drive the school’s development through their pupil voice. They meet annually with the Chair of the local Parish Councils for Langport and Huish Episcopi.
- Community Engagers and the school community (new for spring 2025)
- The Community Engagers will champion our locality not only in the classroom and school but also in the local community. Working with the local Parish Councils, areas of environmental and community concern or enhancement will be raised and hopefully resolved by the Community Engagers. The School Council has previously covered this area but we are pleased to offer this additional opportunity for children to champion and give an additional opportunity for children to shine.
