E-Safety – SnapChat
Written on Monday 3rd July, 2017
Although we know that children should be 13+ to be able to use SnapChat, we are aware, from a few conversations overheard around school, that some of our pupils are already using this app.
As part of our continued commitment to e-welfare, we felt that you should all be made aware of the following developments to the SnapChat app:
Recently SnapChat, used regularly by many children and young people, launched a new feature. SnapMaps allows users to see the location of their contacts. This feature allows others to accurately pinpoint where you are. There are three possible privacy settings:
- Ghost mode, where only you can see your position;
- My Friends mode, where any contact can see your location; and
- Select Friends mode, just those who you choose can see you
ChildNet have posted a thorough explanation of SnapMaps and how to ensure users stay safe.

Please have a conversation with your child about this to ensure that their settings are appropriate.
